At a glance
- No account. There is no sign-up or login, and we never ask for your name or email address.
- Visit statistics. Google Analytics counts visits and shows which features are used. It sets cookies, but we never ask for your name or email.
- Third-party lookup. To find the available formats, each link is checked through a third-party YouTube data API.
- Short cache only. Apart from a brief cache of video information, held for an hour at most, nothing is kept.
1. What you enter
The only input Y2mate takes is a YouTube link or video ID, and it serves one purpose: fetching that video’s title, thumbnail, length and download options. You never have to share your name, email address, phone number or other personal details to use the tool.
2. How a lookup works
When you submit a link, our server pulls out the video ID and passes it to an external YouTube data API, which we reach through the RapidAPI marketplace. The API replies with the video’s details and the file links YouTube makes available.
Alongside the ID we may send a two-letter country code such as US, based on where your connection comes from, so the returned links play in your region. Your IP address, browser details and other identifying information are never forwarded to the API provider.
3. What we store
To make repeat requests quicker, the video information (title, channel, length, thumbnail address and file links) sits in a cache on our host’s edge network for no longer than one hour. That cache is organised by video ID and country code, never by visitor.
There is no record of the links you paste, no per-person download history and no user database. The video and audio files themselves are never saved by Y2mate.
4. Analytics and cookies
Y2mate uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages they open, and which formats and qualities are downloaded. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (such as _ga) and collects technical data like your approximate location, device type and browser. We look at this only as combined statistics, and we do not use it to identify you.
You can block these cookies in your browser settings or with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The downloader keeps working either way. Our host may also place a strictly necessary security cookie to block abuse; it is never used to follow you around.
5. Hosting and server logs
The site runs on Cloudflare. To deliver pages and fend off attacks, Cloudflare handles technical data like IP addresses and browser types under the terms of its own privacy policy. We do not use that data to work out who our visitors are.
6. Content loaded from YouTube
Once a lookup finishes, your browser fetches the thumbnail from YouTube’s image servers, and pressing Download pulls the file from YouTube’s video servers. Both of these travel straight between your browser and YouTube and fall under Google’s privacy policy. Before you submit a link, nothing at all is requested from YouTube.
7. Children
Y2mate is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly gather personal information from anyone, children included.
8. Your rights
Since we hold no personal data tied to you, there is usually nothing to look up, fix or erase. If you still have a question or a request about your data, get in touch and we will do what we can.
9. Changes to this policy
Whenever the way Y2mate handles information changes, this page and the date near the top change too.
